Choose the perfume that best suits you
Choosing an artistic, or niche, perfume is a very personal experience and is different from choosing a commercial perfume.

Artistic perfumes have more complex compositions, use high-quality raw materials and tell a story.

It is therefore necessary to analyze the olfactory pyramid of the perfume, analyzing the top, heart and tail notes.

It is also important to choose the concentration of the perfume, i.e. the essential oils, distinguishing between eau de parfum, eau de toilette and extrait de parfum. Here's a quick guide on how to find the right one for you.
The olfactory pyramid
When choosing a perfume, you are looking for much more than a simple aroma: you are looking for an olfactory identity. Understanding the olfactory notes helps not only to decipher the composition of a fragrance, but also to choose with greater awareness the one best suited to your skin, your personality and your style.

But what exactly is meant by “olfactory notes”? How can they be recognized and why are they so important in the world of niche perfumes?
What are olfactory notes?
Olfactory notes are the aromatic components which, combined with each other, form the complete structure of a perfume. Each fragrance is built like a pyramid made up of top notes, heart notes and base notes, each with a precise role and a different persistence time on the skin.

Top notes They are the first to be perceived when applying a perfume.
Fresh, light and volatile, they last a few minutes but are crucial for the first impression.
They belong to this category: citrus fruits (lemon, bergamot, grapefruit) green notes light spices The top notes invite you to listen to the perfume, they prepare the ground for what is to come.

Heart notes They constitute the heart of the fragrance, or its olfactory soul. They develop after the top notes and persist for a few hours.
They are warmer and more enveloping, often floral or spicy.
Common Notes: rose, jasmine, ylang ylang, lavender, cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla
It is these notes that define the main character of the perfume.

Background notes They arrive last and give depth and durability to the fragrance.
They are the most persistent and remain perceptible even after many hours.
Typical background notes: woods (sandalwood, cedar, patchouli), resins, musks, amber, vanilla, leather.
The base notes are the deep bond between perfume and skin, those that tell a lasting trail.
Concentration of essential oils
The difference between eau de parfum, eau de toilette and extrait de parfum is mainly based on the concentration of essential oils dissolved in alcohol and water.

This concentration determines the intensity, persistence and price of the fragrance.

Extrait de Parfum (or Parfum)
- Concentration: 20-30% (or even up to 40% in some cases).
- Characteristics: It is the purest, most intense and long-lasting form. It does not have a large projection (trail) but develops for a long time on the skin, revealing all its facets. Given the high concentration and cost of raw materials, it is the most expensive and a few drops are enough.
- Ideal use: Special occasions, evenings, when you want a fragrance that lasts for many hours.

Eau de Parfum
- Concentration: 15-20% essential oils.
- Characteristics: It is the most widespread type and an excellent compromise between intensity, persistence and price. The heart and base notes are more accentuated and the fragrance can last 6 to 8 hours on the skin.
- Ideal use: Perfect for everyday use and evening occasions.

Eau de Toilette
- Concentration: 5-15% essential oils.
- Characteristics: Lighter and less persistent than Eau de Parfum. It has a high percentage of top notes, which are perceived immediately and tend to fade more quickly. The duration is usually 2-4 hours.
- Ideal use: Excellent for daytime use, especially in work environments or informal contexts, and during the warmer months.
